Tales of the Black Admiral has been updated with its second installment, The Best of Times Call for Desperate Measures.

Black Admiral is moving along. While there's no huge news to report, there's new content regularly reported on the Updates page. The fiction section has its first serious series, a historical yarn called the Tales of the Black Admiral. The forums have been migrated to Simple Machines software, which is a lot nicer to use and has a lot more features than the old software.

We're going to try adding a comments link to each page to help facilitate easy feedback. We're using a relatively simple and very free comment system from php_noob. At least for the moment, we're going to structure it so that it groups comments from various areas... all the main pages will receive a single set of comments, the races section will receive comments as a whole, the technology and starship sections will each get one "thread", and so on. Feel free to comment. =-)

Still lots going on behind the scenes... Plans are solidifying to develop a first person action/RPG shooter, both as a test bed for developing MMOG assets and to sharpen our skills with the Torque engine. We mentioned the Torque engine, right?? Could it be true that a certain team member even got accepted as a beta tester for Torque X?? And we're still working feverishly expanding the canon and improving the website.

Finally, finally we've gotten around to moving the forums on our own site. Or perhaps re-establishing the forums is a better term... those 3rd party forum hosts really suck when it comes to things like providing backups, so all the old messages and memberships are lost. Growing pains...

We've chosen to move the setting of the MMOG. The current setting is just too... clean... political... Big empires and corporations, flashy technology and civilized nations just aren't as much fun as isolation and danger and an outright fight to survive. The webpage will undergo some revision and the MMOG section will begin to reflect the new setting soon. We've moved to the fringes of the galaxy where it's dirty and mean... we hope you'll like it there as much as we do.

Busy, busy time for Black Admiral. We're considering adopting Torque as our engine of choice. It's a little more difficult to work with than some of the more packaged MMOG development environments but the flexibility it gives may allow us to spin off a single-player game or two along the development path.

GHO-Trader is now version 1.0! The first game in the Black Admiral universe is now live!

We're talking with an independent game developer who's interested in using Black Admiral as a backdrop for a php-based multiplayer space trading game. Looks like quite a cool project with a lot of content generated on-the-fly. Anyone interested in more details or in contributing artwork can contact us or post on the forums
  • We're looking at a couple of options to improve communications. We're looking at options for moving the forums to our site host and exploring which BB system to use. We're also looking at setting up a canon wiki so people can play with developing ideas before they're actually posted to the Canon section of the website.

  • June 2: Updates to the website may slow down for a bit. We're focusing on the MMOG:
-- Mechanics: developing the combat, crafting, and skills systems
-- Mechanics: putting some numbers to weapons and armour
-- Art: we're starting to build models for weapons and buildings
--The World: we're doing development and layout for Stonetown

  • As of May 9, 2006 we're officially hosted by Bluehost.com. So far the transition has been flawless, service friendly, and we ended up with a free domain name to boot. The www.aardware.com address will work for at least a couple of months but you should switch over to www.blackadmiral.com right away. We're still converting from the old eye-numbing black-on-red colour scheme of the old site.

  • Working away on structure and background for a couple of story series, Koherandu and Tales of the Black Admiral. Also frantically filling in canon detail where I can. For the moment, official development is focused on the canon and MMOG so our personal writing is a tad stalled at the moment. Don't wait for us... get involved and help make this baby fly!
