Syzygy MMOG
The Universe teams with life. Gleaming starships ply well patrolled trade routes, bourn on the wings of shiny new technologies. Modern science has all but wiped out disease and death is all but optional. Life in the civilized galaxy is not about what you need but what you want.

But Saleen is not a part of the civilized galaxy.

Centuries ago, the colony ships crawled out from the homeworlds of the major races, struggling to get a foothold. The lucky ships headed deeper into what is now known as the Prodigal Void, founding colonies that went on to become the jewels in the crowns of the galactic empires... Epagon and Caraconcil, Tengadi and Drayquin. The ships that went the other way would coin the term "Badlands" for the space they travelled.

The ships that arrived in the Cynther system sent back word that they had found a decent new home amidst the turmoil and turbulence of the Badlands. They had established a colony on Saleen, a moon of the gas giant Nineris. They requested supplies and further colonists and their subsequent silence seemed to indicate that they were getting on with the business of settling their new world. Supply ships would be sent but none would return. Rescue missions would follow, with similar results. Eventually, the civilized nations would turn their eyes from the Badlands and forget those they had left to die there.

But the colonies on Saleen did not die. Rumours persist that life struggled on in the harsh, isolated system. Traders and scientists sometimes brave the Badlands, hoping to establish contact for knowledge or profit, and always confident that their latest generation of technology will prevail. But few return.

None can say for sure what happens behind the veil of the Badlands on worlds like Saleen, where technology and society have been tested by abandonment. None can say but those who have seen it first hand and they seldom return to tell their story.
